Hair Straightening Dos And Don’ts

When looking to straighten hair but you don’t have money for a permanent hair straightening salon, you can always do the straightening at home.

Most people doing home hair straightening often end up damaging their hair, but it doesn’t have to be the case with you. This is because there are plenty of hair dos and don’ts you can observe to avoid the damage. These tips include:

Don’t straighten wet hair

Most ladies will straighten their hair in the morning after they have come out of the shower. Since they are in a hurry to get to work, they start straightening their hair even when it’s not fully dry. This is wrong as it often leads to extensive hair damage.

When you straighten wet hair, the hair doesn’t get straight right away, so you have to keep going over the strands with your iron. As you can tell, the more you expose your hair to heat, the more it gets damaged hence the increased damage.

To avoid this, avoid straightening your hair while wet. If you are low on time and need to straighten the hair, don’t go straight to it. First, wrap the hair in a shirt or soft towel for about five minutes to remove the excess water, then blow dry it before straightening it.

You can also wash your hair in the evening before going to bed so that in the morning, you have completely dry hair that you can comfortably straighten.

Protect the hair with a heat protection spray

It’s common to damage even fully dry hair, so you should always protect it. Thankfully, you can easily do it. One of the ways to do it is to apply a heat protection spray. While there are thousands of heat protection sprays in the market, one of the best to go for is one that has argan oil in it.

You should generously apply the spray on your hair before you pass the hair straightening iron.

Don’t use the hottest setting.

When you are straightening the hair, you want it to be as straight as possible. Due to this, it’s tempting to use as much heat as possible, but don’t do it as when straightening the hair while wet, you end up causing extensive damage.

As a rule of thumb, never use the hottest setting on the iron. To protect your hair and still attain the straight look you are looking for, stick with a 300 degree F temperature.

Separate the hair into sections

To have an easier time, separate your hair into different sections. One of the best ways to go about it is to separate the hair into four sections and work on one section at a time. As you are working on one section, clip the other sections in place.

Sectioning the hair not only helps you to stay organized, but also prevents you from damaging the hair that you shouldn’t. For example, if you don’t section the hair, the hair can fall as you are using the flat iron, which can cause you to go over certain strands more than once, which increases the chances of damage.

Use a comb as you are straightening.

If you visit Brazilian keratin straightening Rockville or any other salon, you will find the stylists using a comb, and you should do the same. Combing the hair helps get rid of knots and tangles and, at the same time, helps you get more volume, so the hairstyle doesn’t fall or look bland and boring.
